Khandelwal said that festivals like Janmashtami are an important part of the Sanatan economy, strengthening the nation’s economy.

The reports of CAIT

  1. CAIT expects festive sales of over Rs 4 lakh crore due to the extended period of the festival season this year which began with Raksha Bandhan on August 19 and will extend to November 15 on the day of Tulsi Vivah. The business body estimated the festive trade during Raksha Bandhan at over Rs 12,000 crore across the country. In 2022, the business during the Rakhi festival stood at around Rs 7,000 crore; in 2021 it was Rs 6,000 crore; in 2020 it was Rs 5,000 crore; in 2019 it was Rs 3,500 crore, and in 2018 it was Rs 3,000 crore, according to Khandelwal.
  2. “This year’s festive series begins with Raksha Bandhan and continues through Janmashtami, the 10-day Ganesh Utsav, Navratri, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Karva Chauth, Dhanteras, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, Chhath Puja, and other festivals, culminating with Tulsi Vivah. During this festive period, the business community across the country is fully prepared to meet consumer demands, and traders have stocked up adequately on all products,” a CAIT representative said.

On X, PM Modi wrote, “Wishing you all a very Happy Janmashtami. Jai Shri Krishna!” Rahul Gandhi posted, “Hearty wishes and congratulations to everyone on Shri Krishna Janmashtami. I hope that this festival of joy and happiness fills the life of all of you with new enthusiasm and excitement.”
  4. Importantly, August and September mark the beginning of festivities in the country, including Shivaratri, Teej, Rakhi, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi.
    Last year, the festive season including Diwali recorded trade of Rs 3.75 lakh crore, according to CAIT.

This included about 13 percent in food and grocery spending, 9 percent in jewelry spending, 12 percent in textiles and garments, 4 percent in dry fruits, sweets, and Namkeen, 3 percent in home decor, 6 percent in cosmetics, 8 percent in electronics & mobiles, and more. Staffing company Teamlease Services released the statement

According to staffing company Teamlease Services, the e-commerce sector is expected to hire 10 lakh gig workers and 2.5 lakh contractual staff during the upcoming festive season to cater to the surge in demand, PTI reported earlier this month.
The e-commerce industry is poised for a 35 percent surge in sales during the upcoming festive season, which is a substantial leap from the previous year, TeamLease Services Senior VP and Business Head Balasubramanian A said in a statement.
